Six months ago, I gave birth to my second baby girl. It really surprised me how well my husband and I seemed to just know what to do the second time around. I was beyond grateful that I kept all of the good quality baby clothes from my first daughter. In fact, I saved everything I really liked and used, and I got rid of all the “stuff” we really didn’t need or use. It really saved us a lot of money, but more importantly, it brought back so many beautiful memories of my firstborn. Special memories.
There’s so many sweet firsts with our first baby girl. To start, it took us two years and two months to finally get pregnant. She is a miracle, and I thank God for both my babies every day. For a long time, I didn’t think I would ever be a mom. And now, here I am, blessed with two girls.

If I’m going to be honest, the one thing we hardly ever used was the crib. Those girls are glued to us. Yes, they are contact sleepers. It’s not what I would ever recommend. It just is what it is. There have been times when they have both slept in the crib or taken naps, but overall, it rarely gets used. We did really like using the Halo Swivel Bassinest when both were first born. I would recommend ditching the padding it comes with, and buy this upgraded one instead https://amzn.to/3DnJPJD. It makes it way more comfortable.

The number one thing we DO use is the diaper changing dresser. All the time. A really nice diaper changing dresser is essential. We purchased a pretty expensive one at Kohls, and the cushion here https://amzn.to/3DrBZig. I know of a friend who bought one secondhand and fixed it up really pretty. All she did was add the changing cushion to the top and it looked nice. There’s so many ways you can create one. This is what we did. We got one that has a removable top. This way, in the future, we can take it off. In my opinion, it’s very important to get all your baby furniture Greenguard Gold certified.
The next big things are the stroller, car seat, baby monitor, diaper genie, travel stroller fan, cool mister, and diaper bag. Getting a good breast pump is essential. I got both of mine through insurance. I breastfed my first until she was eighteen months old. I’m currently still breastfeeding my little six-month old. As an exclusively breastfeeding mom, I hardly ever use all my expensive, glass bottles, but when I do, I use the Philips Avent Natural glass bottles here https://amzn.to/43vXcSx. My firstborn didn’t really even know how to use a bottle. She went straight to a straw cup when the time was right.
Which brings me to my next big essential, a nursing chair here https://amzn.to/3FcK3nz. This chair is AMAZING! I literally rocked my firstborn all night in it for what seemed like forever. Once our second daughter was born, I asked my husband to bring it out into our living room so we could sit and read books to both our babies. We have a big bookshelf in our living room filled with children’s books.
Next, I recommend Honest Baby one-piece sleepers. They are 100% cotton, and that’s very important. They have so many cute designs, which makes it perfect for siblings to match! I absolutely love this brand. You can find the baby sizes here https://amzn.to/41ybTlr. The lotion is so gentle I’ve even been using it on my face for three years now. The lotion you can find here https://amzn.to/3Dpp9AU. You’ll also need bibs! I’ve learned with my second that there are drool bibs, and then there are eating bibs. We don’t mix them! I really like the Honest bandana style drool bibs found here https://amzn.to/3FqJ8zG.
The next most important thing you will need is a few of the Halo newborn swaddles here https://amzn.to/4ictuqh. And after baby grows out of them, literally within a month or for sure by two months, I highly recommend the Burts Bees Organic Cotton Swaddle https://amzn.to/41vvSRN.
Both my babies loved these. They are comfortable, quilt-style, and warm but breathable. They feel like my own cotton quilt, so I personally really like them. I want my babies to be comfortable, too.

A top essential in a baby room, and eventually kids room, is a book shelf. This one shown above, I bought from Amazon. It has held up wonderfully. And it’s super cute. You can find it here https://amzn.to/43tjiFd. What’s nice about this one is that you can arrange the four shelves any way you’d like. Next, is a baby sound machine. We’ve been using the Hatch Rest Baby Sound Machine for almost three years and really like it, found here https://amzn.to/3DlTAYT. It’s also really nice to have a travel sound machine, the Frida Baby Sound Machine has wonderful bird sounds here https://amzn.to/3FnC6M6.

When considering the decor, I found pieces that had meaning to them. Like the canvas of the koalas signed by Robert Irwin. It’s a beautiful piece. I also chose to do a wall of real animal photography by Robert Irwin. One of a giraffe, and another of an elephant. I found my own frames. I also was gifted a homemade crocheted jellyfish at our baby shower that I hung from the ceiling. It really adds a lot of character to the room.

Children need faith, and God’s words all around them, as much as possible. I purchased these beautiful canvas Bible quotes here https://amzn.to/4iy42ey. I also use personalizationmall.com a lot to personalize the girls’ names on room decor.

Organizing their clothes is a monthly job with how fast these little cuties grow. I found folding the clothes as shown above can really add space. You only need three drawers per child.
To have everything organized well, I recommend these baskets for their room, found here https://amzn.to/3XBYSWT.
I recommend these baskets for your living room to put toys in, found here https://amzn.to/41yvYYP.
For some holidays, I like to use these baskets, found here https://amzn.to/41ApoRI to gift them, and then reuse them after the holidays to hold their toys.
Dolls are essential for little girl rooms and nurseries. This one below is from Forget Me Knots. Shop your local markets to support small businesses.

I hope this has helped to inspire you to decorate your children’s rooms, and nurseries with practical and useful items.

I like to have a crucifix in every room of the house. This one shown below is from my husband’s grandma’s home when she passed. It’s nice to have religious items passed down.
Blessings to you and your little ones!
