Healthy Eats for the Breastfeeding Mom

As a breastfeeding mom, I’m all about healthy eating. Since I am a stay-at-home mom, I try my best to have healthy snacks around to prevent those 3 p.m. cravings. Some of my favorite healthy foods include wasa and peanut butter with mini chocolate chips, berry smoothies, salads, fresh fruit, avocado toast using Ezekiel bread, and even vegan nachos from the amazing Earthy Andy! Check out her awesome book on healthy vegan recipes. You can find it here https://amzn.to/3YryvmX. You’ll want to try her vegan nachos! One thing you’ll want to drink while breastfeeding is coconut water. This is the brand that I would recommend, https://amzn.to/4jnw5yt. It hydrates and helped me produce milk when I needed it. I also like organic lemons cut up in water.

I breastfed my first baby until she was 18-months-old, and I’m currently still breastfeeding my second, and she’s  seven-months-old.

I could eat avocado toast every day if my avocados always turned out good each day. I love avocados! They are very healthy for us too. My toddler has always loved them as well. So, they are yummy to have on hand. You can even make brownies with them! On taco night, you can cut some up with your tacos as well. Avocados are a must-have if you can find them!

Avocado oil on salads is absolutely delicious! I also love to add mozzarella pearls to my salads, too, when I don’t have my normal Swiss cheese. God knew what He was doing when he created strawberries & raspberries! They are perfect for salads and require NO salad dressing! Raspberries crush pretty easy to make a natural dressing for salads and are super healthy!

After my first daughter was born, I had a lot of weight to lose to get back to my pre-baby body. What helped me start losing weight was when my daughter was about seven-months-old, I would eat these wasa crips all the time! Whenever I had a hunger feeling or craving in between meals, these were my go-to! And I lost a lot of weight. I would actually put avocado on them and add scrambled eggs. I also put peanut butter and mini chocolate chips on, too. If you can’t find them in your local store, you can find them here on Amazon https://amzn.to/3XVX5wd.

Wasa crisps are my go-to when I have the chocolate cravings. They have that crunch. By adding peanut butter and chocolate chips, I get that satisfaction. It’s yummy! You can even get creative, adding anything healthy you want. I’ve added strawberries on top with Reddi Wip, and it is delicious. It’s better than eating ice cream.

Next, I love to add black beans to a lunch or even snack if it’s a crazy time and you’re hungry. This orange sauce is actually vegan nacho cheese by Earthy Andy! It’s made from carrots! It’s amazingly creamy and good! You can blend some up and reheat for a lunch or even as an appetizer at dinner.

Trail mix is great, and crisp crackers are delicious with a nice crunch. I love to snack on cutie oranges, with sliced Swiss cheese, and trail mix consisting of almonds, cashews, raisins, and pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin protein muffins by the amazing Amy Palanjian of Yummy Toddler Food. She has some great toddler food ideas. See her recipes here http://www.yummytoddlerfood.com. I absolutely love her recipes! She knows what she is doing.

Next, I like to make a yummy-filled omelet. Add fresh spinach, tomatoes, cheese, salsa, onion, and parsley. Cut in half and share with your toddler! It can be a breakfast, lunch, or snack! Super healthy, too! Many times for breakfast, I love to cook up some oatmeal with cranberries and Ceylon cinnamon.

Once it’s dinner time, eat your meat and protein to keep up with your breastmilk supply. I hope these ideas have helped! Finding healthy options to eat really pays off. Comment your favorite foods that help with breastmilk supply below.

As my toddler and I always say, before we drink our smoothies, “Cheers to good health!”

Blessings!
